Pewter is a hard, tough, but easily fusible, silver-gray alloy. Originally consisting mainly of tin with a little lead, but afterwards modified by the addition of copper, antimony, or bismuth. Inferior sorts contain a large proportion of lead.
Pewter was formerly much used for domestic kitchen utensils and tableware such as dishes, porringers, drinking vessels, tankards and pots. Pewter is also cast as souvenirs and other fine decorative household items.
